Before going into Medicine, I gained a Classics degree (BA(Hons) from Durham University.
I then qualified as a doctor in 2000 and have been a GP since 2007.
Initially I trained in A&E and during 15 hospital posts and overseas work, picked up several interests and qualifications – including in children’s medicine and emergency care.
I have DCH, DRCOG, and MCEM as well as MRCGP.
As well as Minor surgery (for which I am practice lead), my current medical interests are in education, training and mentoring.
I have been a qualified GP trainer since 2014 and as a result NPMG is now a training practice.
I am a GP Appraiser and conduct this work externally from my practice responsibilities.
I have for the past 2 years been involved on the executive committee of a local organisation of some 300 ‘salaried’ (non ‘GP Partner’) doctors. My particular interest has been in the mentoring scheme.
For the past four years I have also been a Doctor for Northumbria Police. I set up an educational forum for this group. I am also regular contributor in another educational group of local doctors which I helped establish in 2008.
Outside of Medicine I enjoy painting, allotmenting, gardening, cooking and family!
